√ Learn To Crochet - Tunisian Purl Stitch (tps)

Last week we started on the Tunisian stitches with the Tunisian Simple Stitch. This week we're going to continue along the Tunisian line and show you how to do the Tunisian Purl Stitch. The Tunisian Purl Stitch builds upon the Tunisian Simple Stitch and creates a fabric that looks a lot like the purl side of a knitted garment. This is one of the stitches used in both my newly released patterns, The Tiny Cables Wristwarmers use this stitch to create the ribbing effect of the cuff as well as the Basketweave Wristwarmers.  Both patterns allow you to practice the stitch in an easy setting.

I hope this video helps you better understand the directions for the Tunisian Crochet Purl Stitch and gets you on the way to creating beautiful "fusion" pieces. √ How I Learned To Crochet

√ It has all become a blur to me, but I can reasonably say that about 9 years ago I met my then boyfriend's grandmother and decided to learn to crochet. What did I do? I went to Barnes & Noble and purchased the book pictured here, I then went to Michael's and purchased a skein of yarn and a hook. My first project was a scarf for my husband (you can read all about it here) that I still have a bittersweet relationship with today. After that first project it's a blur of gifts and trips to the yarn store and stashing away yarn etc. . . but I digress, I started telling you how I learned.

After purchasing my "tools" I sat down and as I read, I did. I learn best while doing or from watching someone else do, so since I didn't have anyone to show me, I just keep working my piece over and over again. I worked the chain until it was even, then I worked the single crochet until it was right. . .etc. you get the idea. Just like anything, if you don't keep working till you get the results you want, then you're not really doing what needs to be done. What I realized in the process of learning to crochet was that I had an aptitude for it. It came easily to me and I evolved quickly.

For several years I was making projects to give away (my bridesmaids all got afghans from me) baby blankets, coats, buntings etc. Then at some point, life got in the way and I did less. Between 2009 & 2010 I'm not sure I made many items at all. But life has once again changed, I'm equiped with more information and things are looking "Yarny" again.

I'm teaching two of my neices how to crochet and I'm hoping to develop a beginners course to teach at local yarn shops. All this because I met a kind lady who inspired me to "learn something new".

My husband and I love being with our family and friends and are thrilled to say we still have friends from our childhood. We have many interests, way too many to list her but the place we like to be best (after being with family & friends) is the shop.

When my husband and I got together, he sold his house, I sold mine and decided that together we would buy "our" house. The buying process was more complicated than it needed to be so I started sewing a picture to relieve my stress. The more stress, the faster I sewed. Finally, when it was all over and we were able to move in and buy furniture, I noticed the picture I'd been working on matched what we'd chosen. My husband volunteered to make a frame so we could hang the picture, and since my daughter says no project happens without me, I got involved with the style and color. I tell this story because it's how I came to the passion I have for what my husband and I do today. I searched for my creative self for years and in one small project, I found it.

My husband loves making furniture and I dabble with painting cute wood items.

2. Which of your items is your favorite and why?

This is tough. No sooner will I declare, something as my favorite I'll see a spark in something else that makes me want to change my mind. If I have to pick one, it would be the Geometric Hardwood Cutting/Serving Board. It's the first time we've made anything like it and I love how the various wood colors come together and create such a unique piece. We don't have very many pieces listed yet, but we have a lot of things on the horizon so continue to check us out to keep posted on all the new items.

 3. What is your favorite book and why?

My favorite book is "Gone with the Wind". I love the setting, I love the romance, and I love the fact that even though Scarlet was not always a likable person, she knew what she wanted and worked for it. She tried to take care of her family, even though she fell short of doing what was best for them.

 4. What is your favorite food and why?

I love pasta and most italian foods. Not sure why but I can eat is almost anytime.

5. If you knew you could not fail, what would you do?

I would quit my day job and devote my time to my newly found passion, working with wood.
