√ Horrible Bosses - Movie Review

√ A few weeks ago, during preparations for the holidays, my hubby and I sat down to watch this movie. I needed to watch something that would still allow me to work on crochet projects and he needed something that would take him away from "work", which at the time was grading papers for the end of the semester.

I'd seen a few previews but they didn't entice me to run out and see the movie, so when my hubby said Horrible Bosses was our "Netflix" pick of the week, I at least knew I could crochet.

We, my "film snob" hubby and I, were very pleasantly surprised when we found ourselves laughing out loud at some of the scenes. The dialogue was funny, the actors were fun and the movie did a few unexpected things in the plot. Although the film is filled with some of my favorites (Jason Bateman, Kevin Spacey, Jamie Foxx) I wasn't sure it would be one I'd watch. I am thankful that I was not only wrong, but that I was also still able to get some crochet done even while laughing out loud. Good movie to see when you just need a "break".

√ Source Code - The Movie

Last night was a rare night. . . hubby and I got to watch a full movie in just about the running time of the movie. As parents to two young kids, we often have to pause the movie to deal with a crying baby or a child dealing with "night terror" (that will be another post). Last night, both kids were in bed by 9pm and beyond the two times we had to pause for consoling or pacifier replacing, we were able to watch the movie non-stop!

It's a good thing because it was a really good movie to watch continuously. I call my husband a "film snob" because he teases me about enjoying the likes of 'Transformers" while also having the ability to call "Shawshank Redemption" my favorite movie, and yet he can only sit through the latter. If it's not a highly rated movie, he has a hard time justifying the time put in to watch it. . . I on the other hand just like to "get away" sometimes when I watch a movie. They don't all have to be intense. Anyway, because my hubby heard Source Code was a good movie, he put it on our Netflix cue and it came three days ago. We were finally able to sit and watch it yesterday.

We both came away loving the movie! The best part was as soon as it started, you were in the character's shoes and just as confused. You, as the watcher, got information at the same time he did and the same questions surfaced for you as they did for him. The ride was intense and the payoff was perfect. If you haven't seen the movie, I don't want to ruin it for you, but I do want to say, we enjoyed our "movie night" because the movie was well worth the investment of busy parent's precious free time!

I give it 5 stars and will gladly watch it again to catch what I may have missed the first time!

√ X-men First Class

There's a little theater near my parents home,called The Strand, where movies arrive a month or two after they've been released. The cost is $5.50 per person and they have one show on weeknights at 7pm and two shows during the weekend days. Sometimes they have comedy shows and children's shows too. The best part is, it's a "Draught House" theater! What does that mean? It means, you can get beer there. . . oh, and other drinks too. There is a full menu along with beer and wine so if you want a fun outing, it's the perfect place to hang out and watch a movie.

While we were passing by going to the park we noticed that "X-Men First Class" was going to be showing so we decided to leave the kiddie with the grandparents and check it out!

Such fun! You can't help but really love the lead characters because they have so much depth and dimension to them. The mutant powers are always fun to see and Kevin Bacon did a really fine job of playing our villain. The only lacking character,
with too many lines I think, was Emma Frost. I love Mad Men, I even love January Jones as Betty Draper, but the only thing she had going for her in X-men was her beauty and that 60's look. I never got past Betty Draper to see Emma Frost. Having said that, we still loved the movie and look forward to sequels that I'm sure will follow. . . Hollywood knows how to capitalize on a franchise if nothing else!

I give it 4.5 stars only because there were some inconsistencies with timeline. . . but you wouldn't know unless you followed the X-Men from way back when. . . Oh, and look out for Wolverine, he's always great!
